Ashford 2s travelled to Leigh with a strong squad that included two players, Rhys Fussell and Ben King, returning to the fray. In Glen Collins’ absence, the team was led by Aaron Bowes, keen to maintain their unbeaten record. Ashford’s pack quickly asserted dominance over the home side, and rewarded with two early tries from No. 8 Will Welsh. Leigh’s efforts to reduce the deficit proved unsuccessful and tries from Ryan Hammond and Harrison Kemp provided the visitors with a comfortable 28-0 half time lead. Further scores followed after the break, notably tries from Andy Ticehurst and two each from Owen Piper and Ben King. With Nadeem Makhalfa adding four conversions, Ashford ran out comfortable winners by 53-0. Captain Aaron Bowes praised his forwards’ efforts, registering seven of the nine tries scored, and the whole team for not conceding any points. This coming Saturday, the team travels to play Tunbridge Wells 3s.
